Anti-doping officials: it is strange that Nadzeya Ostapchuk has been caught using metenolone

Nadzeya Ostapchuk, a Belarusian shot putter, won the 2012 Olympic gold medal. But the athlete lost the medal because she was caught using the anabolic steroid metenolone (methenolone). She provided two samples. The substance metenolone was found in both urine samples.
If you read news linked with doping, you must know that professional sportspersons and bodybuilders are usually caught applying other steroids and/or performance-enhancing drugs. But when it comes to Nadzeya Ostapchuk, she was caught using metenolone. It is unusual, according to statements of anti-doping officers. What does this prohibited preparation represent? Why don’t athletes ordinarily use this drug for enhancement of performance?
Metenolone is an anabolic steroid. It has weak androgenic features. It acts like testosterone, increasing muscle mass and adding strength.
Although this steroid possesses just weak androgenic nature, it causes development of sex male features in women. Women who administer this drug may face typical signs of virilization: the voice becomes deeper; excessive hair grows on the face and on other parts of the body; etc.
This steroid can be administered orally or through injections.
Metenolone (Methenolone) benefits greatly, when it is applied by athletes during their workouts. It is not applied during competitions. It doesn’t work, if it is taken only on the day of a competition.
It is also stated that it is easy to catch those who take this anabolic steroid.
Adverse consequences of Metenolone (Methenolone) depend upon quantities which are used. They include water retention, elevated calcium level in the blood, bone growth, hirsutism, acne formation, hair loss, menstrual irregularities, increased libido, etc.
So, if you see a female athlete who has deep voice and excessive hair growth on the body, you may suspect her of steroid use. In fact, it is wrong because these problems may occur also in those women who don’t administer any steroids. But sometimes these signs demonstrate that certain female athletes administer products that have androgenic properties.
