The American fighter Chael Sonnen is allowed to use anabolic steroids. The physician Timothy Trainor claimed that this sportsman actually suffered from hypogonadism.
What does this disease represent? Hypogonadism is related to insufficient production of the hormone testosterone. Health care providers commonly indicate hormone replacement therapy in order to treat this disease.
The fighter Chael Sonnen has received a therapeutic use exemption (TUE). Thus, this fighter is allowed to use steroids for medical needs and fight against Anderson Silva at UFC 148 in July 2012.
According to prescription of Sonnen’s doctor, he has to apply injections of Testosterone Enanthate and Testosterone Cypionate twice weekly. The dosages that are indicated have not been discussed. But under rules of the Nevada Athletic Commission, blood serum levels of testosterone in this mixed martial artist should be within normal range on the morning after the match with Silva.
According to the doctor Trainor, those that compete with TUE must be tested on the morning after the match to learn whether they have utilized something right before the match.
The physician Trainor thinks that testosterone is able to produce performance-enhancing effects, if it is applied right before the fight. He claims that injections must not be introduced in the days before a match in order to prevent elevated levels of testosterone.
But it seems that the NAC is not aware that steroids produce effects connected with enhancement of performance, not only if they are applied right before competitions. Usage of steroids enhances performance during workouts before competitions. And the benefits remain even after sportspersons discontinue administering them.
The fighter Chael Sonnen had high testosterone levels at UFC 117. He argued that he had tested positive because he had been on TRT. He appealed his suspension and it was reduced to 6 months from one year. But Chael Sonnen didn’t have any TUE that time.
