Anti-doping system becomes more sophisticated

While athletes that dope seek new methods to avoid detection, anti-doping agencies introduce new tools in order to catch those that take forbidden products. One of new tools introduced into anti-doping system is biological passport. It helps to define whether a sportsperson has administered any banned medication. The biological passport measures certain biomarkers that can indicate whether an individual has taken certain substances. So, it can measure hemoglobin levels. Unexplained low or high hemoglobin levels may indicate doping. So, the biological passport determines physical changes that play essential role in detection.
It is evident that anti-doping policy becomes more sophisticated. It elaborates new tools to catch dopers and make sports free from doping.
If you compare drug tests which have been used earlier with those that are applied today, you may understand that the difference is essential. Anti-doping efforts are significant. Drug testing becomes more progressive.
It was also elaborated a test for detection of CERA. This product was originally developed in order to treat anemia linked with kidney diseases. Since earlier there was not any drug test that could determine metabolites of this substance, Rashid Ramzi of Bahrain avoided detection at the Beijing Olympics. Recently his sample was re-tested by this new test. Anti-doping officers defined that this sportsman had applied CERA. As a result, Rashid Ramzi lost his awards.
Earlier it was hard and even quite impossible to catch those who used HGH. Lately a blood test for this drug was also elaborated.
Another new drug test, known as Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry, was also recently introduced. This test helps to determine whether testosterone has been administered from outsides or it has been secreted in the body naturally.
Thus, anti-doping system is more progressive today. Anti-doping officials hope that they will be capable to clean sports from intake of performance-enhancing drugs.
